How Long Does It Take To Get Good At Playing The Guitar?
This depends on the individual and your goals. Some people want to be the next Jimi Hendrix while others just want to be able to play and sing some songs for fun. Everybody's learning curve is different. Remember the more you just play and practice, the quicker you will learn.

However, here is a rough guideline for the average player:

1-2 Months:
Be able to play your basic open chords, a few strumming patterns and even a song or two.

3-6 months:
Building on your first few months by playing a couple of barre chord shapes and introducing scale shapes. Lead Guitar will also begin such as trying to nail famous guitar riffs you hear on your favourite songs.

6-9 months:
You will be able to play most of your basic simple rock and pop songs. You will learn how to break a song down and learn the chords, the riffs and the guitar solos.
1 Year:
By now you will have a solid foundation and will be able to play a lot of songs plus be pretty knowledgable on the guitar.
Every year moving forward:
Just like any other thing you learn in life, it will be up to you on how far you want to take it.
Every year you play the guitar you will continue to dramatically improve your touch, feel, style and knowledge. The possibilities are limitless! You can continue lessons to become an advanced player, while joining a band to play with other people. You could even start writing your own music. The most important thing is to have an instrument like the guitar as your go to tool. This will help and give you the skills you need to do anything in music.
